On a perfectly clear fall day, Kristy and I took wing to visit the Thousand Islands for the first time.

Overlooking Irondequoit Bay from 5500'.  The bay separates Irondequoit, NY on the left from Webster / Penfield on the right.

During a flight along Lake Ontario to Alexandria Bay, we encountered this striking fen as we rounded the eastern end of the lake.  This photo was taken from 5500'.

Boldt Castle was the intended dream home of George and Louise Boldt on Heart Island in Alexandria Bay.  Construction was halted on this magnificent estate when Louise passed away in 1904.  During our visit to Alexandria Bay, Kristy and I visited Heart Island and wandered the castle and its grounds.

One of the Thousand Islands in the St Lawrence River is Heart Island, home to Boldt Castle.  Kristy and I visited the castle earlier that day and took some photos from ground level, too.

The stretch of the St Lawrence River just east of Lake Ontario is known as the Thousand Islands region for fairly obvious reasons.  Lots and lots of islands...
