San Diego Aerospace Museum, San Diego, CA

I visited the San Diego Aerospace Museum on December 13, 2003. While truly a top-notch facility, I was unable to get any decent interior photographs. Thank goodness for the brightly-lit atrium!
December 13, 2003: "Blackbird on a Stick". Another of the elite A12 Blackbirds; this one pointed skyward outside of the San Diego Aerospace Museum. Frankly, being mounted on a post seems a rather ignoble fate for the world's fastest air-breathing aircraft, but it makes for an impressive conversation piece outside the museum's main entrance.
December 13, 2003: Within the atrium of the museum, this F-4 Phantom banks in perpetual chase of a MiG-15.
December 13, 2003: The Soviet designed MiG-15 appeared during the Korean War with speed, durability, and maneuverability that made it a rather unpleasant surprise for American pilots. It was the first in a series of highly successful jet fighters produced by Mikoyan-Gurevich.
December 13, 2003: Continuing the "aircraft on a stick" motif at the museum, the Ford Trimotor hovers in the corner of a hall otherwise dominated by military aircraft. |
