Additional Information
Additional Info: Emory EMS (EEMS) is a student-run, volunteer, quick response, basic life support EMS service that serves Emory University and the surrounding Emory community. By maintaining strong relationships with the Emory Police Department and DeKalb County EMS, Emory EMS strives to provide high-quality, professional, confidential, and expeditious emergency medical care. Established in 1992, Emory EMS began as the vision of a few individuals who wanted to assist DeKalb County in providing emergency medical coverage to the Emory campus. EEMS was the first licensed collegiate first response agency in the state of Georgia. As a student-run, volunteer service, the unit has grown to over forty active members, all minimally certified by the state of Georgia as intermediate emergency medical technicians (EMTs). In recent years, programs with DeKalb County EMS, the Emory University Hospital Emergency Department, and Grady EMS have enabled unit members to gain valuable medical experience while working with some of the finest paramedics and emergency medical physicians in the state. The future of the unit looks promising. With an ever-increasing student and community population, the need for a campus EMS service will increase. By maintaining a high standard of care and expanding into public awareness and prevention arenas, Emory EMS will continue to provide high-quality emergency care for the Emory community.
