UVM Rescue to Dedicate New Ambulance

Press Release

UVM Rescue will dedicate its new ambulance to the communities of South Burlington and the University of Vermont on Saturday, July 16, at 284 East Avenue in Burlington. There will be rescue demonstrations and a noon ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring UVM President Thomas P. Salmon and South Burlington City Manager Chuck Hafter.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and participants include the Vermont Air National Guard Heavy Rescue Unit and South Burlington's fire and police squads. Refreshments will be served.

"Our goal is to provide the highest standard of rescue care in the county and we've gone the extra mile to raise money for the best possible ambulance available," said spokesman Jason Webster.

UVM Rescue, the university's Office of Alumni Relations and Development, residents of South Burlington and UVM faculty, staff and students have raised more than $20,000 toward the purchase of the Road Rescue ambulance.

UVM Rescue is one of only a handful of completely student-run rescue units in the country. UVM Rescue is the first-response unit for South Burlington and the university campus. There are currently 28 undergraduates on the squad, along with several Burlington area residents and volunteers associated with UVM's College of Medicine. UVM Rescue responds to 1,500 calls a year and makes 1,200 transports. They are on call 365 days a year. In emergencies, reach UVM Rescue at 656-4444 or dial 911.
