Murder! Responding to Traumatic and Unusual Events on Campus
Fatal incidents can occur anywhere, at any time, on any campus. In April of 2018, a student was brutally stabbed to death in his dorm room on the campus of Binghamton University (NY). As collegiate emergency medical technicians, we seldom receive training that prepares us to respond to an incident of this nature and magnitude. So, what do you do? How do you respond, react, recover? This lecture will review our response to this call, the injuries encountered and how we managed them, and how we dealt with the aftermath, both as an agency and as a community. This lecture will also seek to explore the best practices for debriefing and providing mental health services to leaders and members of your agency following such a traumatic call.
