Geneseo, New York- In order to better reflect its role on casmpus, the Geneseo Emergency Squad has changed its name to Geneseo first Response.

The organization, which is supported through the Student Association, voted at the beginning of December to make the change. The Student Association Central Council voted at its meeting to last week to recognize the change.

The name change was made to better reflect the organization's current operations. "Our role has changed from what it used to be," Michael Bastedo, lieutenant of operations for Geneseo First Response, said last week. He noted that state authorities want the organization's naem to reflect that it is not an ambulance service that transports patients to the hospital, but rather a group of trained students who are first on the scene of an emergency and administer health care until an ambulance arrives.

The new name is also "shorter, simpler, and not as much of a mouthful," said Bastedo.

There is no cost to the Student Association for the change, said Bastedo, and the cost of repainting the name on the van will be taken care of by the college.

Geneseo First Response is made up of Student Emergency Medical Technicians who volunteer their time to service the Geneseo campus.
