Binghamton University students joined other emergency responders in dedicating a new ambulance this weekend.

The Harpur's Ferry Student Volunteer Ambulance Service received this new 2003 wheeled-coach ambulance. It was dedicated to past, present, and future members of the ambulance service.

The ambulance was bought with student fee allocations from the Student Association.

Harpur's Ferry is completely run by student volunteers who work between 6 and 24 hours during the week. The unit provides free and basic advanced life support services to students, faculty, and staff both on and off campus.

Harpur's Ferry Liutenant Joshua Parsons says now that they have a second ambulance, it'll be a big help to the community.

"In the past, when we got two calls that came back to back, we'd have to call Vestal, we'd have to call Superior from Binghamton. Now we can cover it on our own. We can roll two ambulances and cover two simulataneous calls on campus," Parsons said.

The unit is only one of 8 collegiate E-M-S agencies in the country to offer advanced life support to their patients. Student volunteers take a 72 hour advanced first aid class and 140 hour EMT course to join.
