Press Release

This past Thursday, March 17, 2005, eleven members Harpur's Ferry Student Volunteer Ambulance Service completed the Advanced EMT- Critical Care class after passing the NYS Certifying Examination. This comprehensive exam is composed of a challenging 210 questions representing all of the material covered during the past 7 months that they have been attending this course. The curriculum as set forth by the New York State Department of Health Bureau of Emergency Medical Services estimates the course length to be 300-400 hours.

Some interesting information regarding Harpur's Ferry and the Broome County EMS Critical Care Program:
1. This class initially had approximately 30 students from the Susquehanna Region. The only students to make it to the NYS Certifying Exam were the 11 students from Harpur's Ferry and one additional non-Harpur's Ferry member.
2. The average age of passing Harpur's Ferry students was 20.45.
3. In the last three years Harpur's Ferry members have accounted for 17 out of the 20 (85 percent) successful EMT-CC students in Broome County.
4. With the addition of the 11 new ALS Providers Harpur's Ferry now has more Medics on the roster than ever before in our history.

Please join me in congratulating them on this accomplishment. If you have any questions or comments feel free to contact me.
